Get your skin in tip top shape in time for Summer

We are officially summer time but most of us have weeks before our Summer holiday’s, I have 8 and a bit 🙂 so you have time to get that skin silky soft , glowing and feeling incredible. No point investing in super cute summer clothes, buying  the best of make up’s if you don’t look after the foundation (your skin) first, so today I bring you my top tips (only four) to have your skin feeling and looking incredible and the best part of all is that you will see real differences from week one but if you keep going for 6-8 weeks you will reveal a more glowing, softer and silky skin.

#1 / Drink Water , This is a simple step yet one may miss out on, Don’t drink water every day, 6-8 glasses at the least, water is not just super to hydrate your skin but it is super for you, Water flushes out toxins from the body, it aids digestion, promotes weight loss and is can even cur a headache (next time the heads pounding re hydrate with a few glasses of water before reaching for the pain killers).

#2/ Dry Body Brush, Once you begin you will not ever want to stop! Do this daily, is should take you no more than 3-4 minutes but will see fantastic results in how you skin looks and feels. Work in gentle circular, upward motions, then longer, smoother strokes. Always begin at the ankles in upwards movements towards the heart,  Increasing the circulation to the skin can  reduce the appearance of cellulite, body brushing helps shed dead skin cells (and encourages new cell renewal) and is great to stop ingowing hairs. Buy a natural bristle long handles brush and this will last you 12+ months, wash after each use.

#3/ Shower / Bath , Most of us shower or bath in water that is a little warmer than we should, turn the temperature down a little and try alternating the temperature in the shower from hot to cold as this will further invigorate the skin and stimulate blood circulation, bring more blood to the outer layers of the skin.

#4/ Moisturise , It is a step I know a lot skip due to time being an issue or not seeing it as a step needed but if you want exceptionally soft, glowing skin this summer, then do not skip this step, I apply body lotion or a body oil daily after my shower, I apply before I dry off because once dry, I find I use too much and this takes time to sink in, time I do not have early in the morning.

Irish water charges explained / How much will it cost you to flush your toilets after today? How much will a shower cost ? Metered water charges to be capped for nine months and not the six months initially talked about

irish_water

So we are only hours away from being charged for our Domestic and Waste water (in addition to the monies we already pay) billing beings at midnight tonight and the 1st bill you will receive will be in January 2015 and The Commission for Energy Regulation has announced that customers of Irish Water are to have their metered charges capped at an assessed rate for the first nine months of use. The cap is those without meters and they will pay an annual rate of €176 for a household with one adult – or €278 for a home with two adults and an additional €102 for any other resident adults within a home and there is no charge for children. Under the metered system children will be given 21,000 of free allowance or the equivalent to 262.2 baths a year, or 14 flushes of the toilet per day per child, this 21,000 will be used up pretty fast.

brendan  (Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin)

There are two types of ‘customer’ – those with meters who will pay for the water they use, and those without meters who will pay an assessed charge.

Customers who live in areas where the water is unfit for human consumption will not pay any water supply charge, once a boil water notice has been in place for at least 24 hours – however they will continue to be charged for waste water services at €2.44 per 1,000 litres.

If you are one of the ‘customers’ who are metered the charges are as follows, €2.44 per 1,000 litres of Domestic water usage and €2.44 per 1,000 litres of Waste water used, if people take water and waste water services from Irish Water, they will pay €4.88 per 1,000 litres, what does this mean to you in real usage terms?

  • A bath will cost you an estimates 39c as it uses about 80 litres of water
  • Opting for a shower is a little less at 19c as this uses a little under 40 litres of water
  • Turning on your washing machine is estimated to cost you 31c
  • and flushing your toilets is expected to cost 4c each and ever flush

shower

I expect these charges (if people opt to pay) will have serious implications to peoples health, in the fact some parents may ask their children not to flush the toilet each time they use it  or to limit the washing of their hands post using the toilet, people are likely to not shower as often or wash their clothes as much as they really should.

At this time we have adults missing a dinner or two throughout the week in order to feed their children, yet these very same people are now being asked to find the money to pay this additional utility bill.

There are 3 adults and 1 child in my house hold, on the un metered charges I would be billed €380 and if metered this could sky rocket. Imagine we all shower each day, this is a whopping 76c and god forbid we need to use the washing machine just the once at 31c and we flush the toilet only 16 times per day (this is only 4 times per person per day) at 64c and this is before we wash our hands or wash the dishes (or use a dishwasher) we are looking at in excess of €2.00 per day, over the 365 days in the year this is a massive €730. this is the initial charges capped until 2016 as stated by the Commission for Energy Regulation, but imagine what year  3 or 4 will bring, I would say this will only ever go up in cost and never down.

And what about the people who have a holiday home or a place they visit for a few weeks of the year? well these people will have a non resident charge of €125 per year imposed.

Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin has said the system for charging for water is fair and equitable.

Speaking ahead of a Cabinet meeting this morning, the minister said all the issues that had been of concern to people had been addressed.

Mr Howlin said it was “a good idea” to place a nine-month cap on charges.

He added that the exact charge could not have been estimated accurately until the composition of each house in the State was known.

Speaking on the same programme, Paul McGowan of the CER said if people take water and waste water services from Irish Water, they will pay €4.88 per 1,000 litres – or half that per service.

He said that initially charges will be capped from the date of the installation of a metre in a household.

“So if your metre is installed already then your charges will be capped at the assessed charge until June of next year.

“If your metre gets installed, let’s say in January of next year, then you’ll have until September for this cap to apply.”

In relation to leaks, Mr McGowan said Irish Water will be putting in place a first fix policy and anyone believing they have a leak should contact the utility.

He said details of the policy would be published on the Commission’s website.

He said customers who have been overcharged will receive a rebate after six months.

Mr McGowan also said that water coming in to a house must be deemed to be undrinkable for 24 hours before the charge comes into effect to be eligible for a 100% discount.

He said all the caps and charges announced today apply to the end of 2016.

Shiny , Glossy, Fabulous Hair Made Easy

So you want hair that shines? you want hair that feels super soft? you want hair that look as good as it feels? well then you need to read on to our Easy ways to get shiny hair tips.

.shair 1. Say yes to hair serum.
Shine serums are available that have been specially formulated to give frizzy or unruly hair a sleek sheen. Find some great options at your pharmacy, beauty supply store, or hair salon. These serum’s moisturize your hair with a light concentration of oils or silicone. To apply, “use a pea-sized amount to start,” you can always add more but you can not take away if you add too much. “Start at the bottom of your hair and work your way up, rubbing it into wet hair with your hands.” It’s important not to use too much serum, because it can weigh hair down, but if you feel you need more moisture, go ahead and add a bit more.

shinyhair  2. Eat nutritious foods.
I recommend getting your daily recommended allowances of vitamins A and E for shiny, healthy hair. Also, be sure you’re eating plenty of protein, which promotes hair growth. “Eggs and nuts are excellent sources of protein,” What you put into your body really does affect how your hair and skin looks

Less is more with your hair, less product, less heat, less color. bhair

3. Avoid harsh chemicals.
Shiny hair is healthy hair – so don’t abuse it! Limit your hair’s exposure to harsh chemicals, like the chlorine in pools, and lye-based hair-relaxing creams. Use heat-styling as infrequently as you can get away with, and avoid products that contain alcohol, which can dry out your hair and strip its shine. Sounds simple but of your hair is in distress you will have to be very patient with it while you await the new hair growth that you will not expose to the drying elements.

4. Hydrate your body.
Just like the food you eat, Drinking plenty of water will ensure that your hair is properly moisturized from the inside out. About eight glasses a day is ideal. Keep a bottle by your side and sip from it often. Once you begin drinking 8+ glasses a day you will never look back, this helps your skin, hair and makes the whites of your eyes really bright.

5, Hair Rinse
Mix two tablespoons apple cider vinegar with one cup water, and use to douse your hair after washing. Rinse thoroughly, and follow with a light conditioner. The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar will remove residue from product buildup and help you get shiny, lustrous locks. I have used this tip since I was about 11 years old and when I have taken a break from this tip I really see a difference.

I have a Blog post coming soon with many natural, affordable, home hair remedies. Keep an eye on this Blog for the updates.
