Aroi Restaurant Limerick Review

If you are planning a trip to Limerick City, then find time to visit Aroi! This review is based on my personal experience in their Aroi’s Limerick restaurant but just to let you know, Aroi are also based in Cork City Center also.

In Aroi’s words:

Aroi is a casual dining venue which offers a single course dining experience and service with the minimum of fuss.

Our ethos is to serve market fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Our healthy cuisine avoids the obscure chemicals and additives so common in our food today.

Aroi sources authentic herbs and spices and we do not use M.S.G. in any of our preparation.”

In my words:

Aroi is one of my favorite places to visit for lunch in Limerick, they serve fresh, tasty, clean food at affordable prices with the bonus of a free ice cream afterwards.

I have tried many items on their menu but my favorites are (in order) the Pad Thai, Char-grilled Duck, Red Thai Curry and the must try for you all, their sticky rice, I love this with the Char-grilled Duck.

All main meals are just €10, which I really love, before you go in, regardless of what takes your fancy on the menu, it is always just €10!

Aroi also have a large selection of soft drinks, wine, teas and Thai beers.

The ice cream I referred to is actually their homemade Gelato, they have tonnes of flavors, I have tried their Cherry, Lemon & Coconut, and I loved them all, I will have to return “just to try the others” and report back 🙂

I am a big fan of Aroi and I am not alone, this year Aroi won the Best newcomer in Munster from Irish Restaurant association. Well done Aroi, this is a super achievement because as you know, Limerick and Munster is filled with some super places to dine.

Taikichi Japanese Restaurant (Review)

Let me begin by saying if you have not yet visited Taikichi in Limerick then you are seriously missing out and you must add it to your list of places to visit in this wonderful city!

I am a massive fan of Taikichi in Limerick, they offer super Japanese food as a great price, their lunch offers are particular great but they also have an early bird deal.

Yesterday I popped in here and tried their Tempura Bento, this was priced at just €9.90 and for this I received Miso Soup, a delicious light, not too salty (sometimes I find it can taste a little over salted) warm bowel of soup, followed by two pieces of Sushi, two Gyzoa, Rice, 7 pieces of tempura (4 fish 3 vegetable) and a selection of fruit. for €9,90 this was incredible, it was a light but packed full of flavour and has me counting the days until I return to try another dish from this great restaurant.

The hubby had their Seafood Bento and this came with Salmon Teriyaki, plus the rice, sushi and gyzoa, miso soup and was priced at just €12.50.

All our food was tasty and fresh, the service was spot on and the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, this is a place I will visit a lot and not to mention the price, €22.40 for what we had is an incredible price, try this, you will not be disappointed.

The Buttery Limerick

I visited The Buttery twice in the last few weeks, once for Breakfast and once for Lunch, I will talk about both here beginning with Breakfast.

The Buttery is located on Bedford Row in the heart of Limerick city, it is a mid priced bistro kind of spot. The seating is slightly quirky and pretty, with plenty of space between tables in a nice bright, open setting. Service is good and fairly fast.

Breakfast in The Buttery was delicious , the menu is small enough but seems to cover what I want in a Breakfast, they have porridge, full Irish, eggs every which way, pancakes and what I went for, the French toast, bacon, eggs and maple syrup. They also have a choice of tea’s, coffee’s and juices.

5 pieces of French toast arrived with some grilled back rashers and a pot of maple syrup in the center with scrambled eggs served on the side. This is never the kind of breakfast I would have at home, at home I would have cereal, toast, fruit etc so this was a lovely treat and one I will certainly return for. I paid around €10-13 for my breakfast, I did not take a picture of the menu and they have not got this online to share with you.

All in all The Buttery is a great spot in the center of the city for a good quality, mid priced breakfast.

Now onto Lunch, this again is a simple affair as far as choice is concerned, they have 1-2 daily specials, with a few wraps, baps, burgers etc on the main menu.

Lunch starts at about €12 for a main dish , I ordered a chicken bap with chips and my husband had their daily special burger, both were ok all be it a little on the bland side, for Lunch I would not imagine I would return to The Buttery, however in saying this, the Breakfast was very good so maybe other item’s on the Lunch menu are better than the options we selected.

All in all The Buttery is an ok spot for lunch in the heart of Limerick.

The Benefit to great Brows!

Turning your brows to wows! This is an entire post dedicated to one incredible brow bar!

So not like me but I have had such a wonder experience here that I feel I must share this with you all!!

Before and After pictures, Price list, services details and a little about the amazing lady running this super brow bar.

Let me begin by telling you a little about the lady who looks after this incredible brow bar, Ash has 10+years experience within the beauty industry, she studied in Pembroke College Limerick and spent the last 5 years managing Aleisha Jane Beauty, a brow boutique in Sydney which featured in Vogue and Grazia. Aleisha Jane Beauty is one of the most successful salons in Sydney and with Ash managing it is no surprise.. They were named as one of the Top 5 Brow Tamers in Sydney 2014 by Urban List, Pop in for a chat with Ash as she is a fountain of beauty knowledge and will give you honest yet great advise.

So lets tell you about this full service

First step is brow mapping, this is individualise to each person as no two brows are the same. Brow mapping consists of measuring 3 points; the start point of the brow slims the nose and brings the eyes closer together, the 2nd is the arch point which opens up the eyes and the end point compliments the overall brow and heightens the cheekbones. Ais insists that tinting is a must for everyone as it fills in gapping in the brows, gives a smooth defined finish, and you use less product when filling in the brows so it looks less false. it’s like ‘waking up with make -up’.

An azulene oil is used to protect and soothe the skin before the wax is applied, the oil prevents the wax from adhering to the skin so that the wax forms around the hair meaning less sensitivity, redness and no pulling of the skin – high quality creme wax used – Benefit own brand – while Ash was performing the treatment she applied ‘It’s Potent Eye Cream’ as an Intensive Mask – combats fine lines, dark circles and puffiness leaving your eyes hydrated and fresh for the day ahead – Acoolala (Aloe Vera Gel) applied after to soothe the skin, I have a little pot of this wonderful stuff and I will be back for more.

Once you’re finished the girls conceal any redness (to be fair I had none!), style the brow with the famous Browzing a wax and powder compact used to style the brow and touch up your make up so you’re ‘catwalk ready’ Recommended for at home use , Browzing is the number one brow product (a wax and powder combo) used to create that perfect defined brow , they also have Gimme Brow a brow mascara great for in between your tinting to add a little colour and ideal for a modern day busy woman.

I am so please with the results and after years of getting my brows done I can honestly say these are the best yet! Ash tells me that to get they ‘perfect’ she will train my brows over the next 9-10 months but after the first time I am so impressed that I can honestly say I would not let anyone else touch my brows.

Chocolat Restaurant Limerick City

This is a super spot for lunch any day of the week, as it offers incredible value, with super quality and great service. Service is speedy yet not rushed, quality is incredible yet this is affordable and I would say the best value lunch in Limerick right now (for soup, sandwich, chips and a coffee with a biscuit on the side for an mind boggling €8.95)

I have been here many times and samples their evening set menu, al la carte and their very tasty cocktail menu but for now let me tell you about my lunch here and the choices, the total bill, and some pic’s of this super lunch.

So I was in town shopping with my youngest daughter, she is 12 and loves the food here, and we decided this was the spot for us this weekend, we both opted for the €8.95 sandwich combo but as we both opted for the steak sandwich there was a €2 supplement, totally worth it! We got a fabulous steak sandwich, chips and a super celeriac and apple soup! delicious and a coffee for finish.

All in all this is a great spot, If you are working in the city, in Limerick for leisure, meeting the girls for a catch up, in town celebrating anything, this is a great spot, food is always good and always priced really well.

J.P.Clarkes Bunratty Co Clare

J.P.Clarke’s Bunratty Co Clare

Jp’s a rustic country pub and since opening in November 2008, they have developed a reputation for excellence in food and a good old fashioned warm welcome.
JP Clarke’s was awarded Best Gastro Pub in Clare 2013 by the Irish Restaurant Awards and it is easy to see why if you take the time to visit.

We went for a late lunch / early evening meal on Sunday, the weather was fantastic so as you can imaging Bunratty was heaving but JP’s had a table for my hubby and I within 5 minutes of arriving. Fantastic start.

Jp’s have a typical bar food menu, with the addition of daily specials and these are served from 12-9.30pm daily.

This is just a snip at what they have to offer but it gives you an idea as well a the kind of prices to expect to pay.

My hubby and I both choose one of the item’s from the specials board, the Grilled salmon, chunky chips with a side salad, the salmon had a orange, spring onion zesty crumb! ( I know it does not look like a crumb to me either but this is as described on the menu) was €13.95 for this and with the pudding in at €6.25 , add a coffee and both of us had a really lovely Sunday lunch for under €50, a very good price considering the quality, the service and the location, Bunratty is a tourist hot spot yet you can eat all over Bunratty for a very fair price!

Attached to JP’s is Gallagher’s , In 2010, Gallagher’s Seafood Restaurant was crowned ‘Best Restaurant in Clare’ by the Restaurant Association of Ireland.

Bottom line , JP’s offers great service and food at a very fair price and I would have no problem recommending this place to anyone and I will absolutely be returning for some more of their delicious delights.

Jp’s is a great casual dining experience for lunch, evening and afternoon treats, Gallaghers is a little more towards fine dining with some incredible creations, I will do a full post on Gallaghers very soon for you.

If you are visiting County Clare on your travels, Gallagher’s Seafood Restaurant & JP Clarke’s Country Pub are a must for you to try.

McGettigan’s Limerick Review

Limerick has some great places to hear live music , to eat and to have a drink or two. Last Saturday I took my very 1st visit to McGettigan’s in Limerick city, McGettigan’s is open for some time and every time I pass it in the car, I say “I must pop in sometime” and it took my until now to do so. This was an evening of just the hubby and I (does not happen nearly enough) and he was the one who suggested we finally give this place a go.

McGettigan’s looks beautiful, loads of cosy seating, private area for parties, plenty of staff so your wait is never long to be served, a long list of drinks and a fabulous cocktail menu as well as some pretty great food choices.

I was all in all super impressed with my visit to McGettigan’s Limerick and I will be back. Here is why:

So here have a look at some of the drinks we “had” to sample (its all about the blog) all priced at €7.50 each and all delicious , If I were to go back and only be able to have one, I might have to go for the ‘Taste of Limerick’ , yummy

And some of the food ( this food cost just under €20 for the two of us) incredible value , we ordered the mix selection of starters between us and their wild mushroom bruchetta, we were not massively hungry and I find if I have a heavy meal on a night out, all I want to do afterwards is head to the sofa at home, find its much nicer to eat light and stay out to enjoy the few drinks, chats and the live music.

McGettigan’s do some great ‘offers’ each week :

Monday is Steak night , this is a super offer and great when you have had a long day at work and can’t face cooking afterwards (it is as cheap as some burger type meals, yet you are getting quality steak) This is the deal “Choose from either 12oz Irish Angus Rib Eye or 12oz Striploin Steak with homemade peppercorn sauce, our famous fries (PS the fries are delicious) and 2 glasses of wine” JUST €25 for 2 people

Tuesday is Tax Free Tuesday, another super offer for anyone looking to go out mid week , This is the deal “Every Tuesday food & drinks are served at a reduced ‘tax free’ price all day long!” Can’t say fairer that that.

Thursday is Ladies night and wow what a night they put on for us 🙂 Cocktails are BYGOF and 20% off Food , will be taken the girlies to this soon x This is the deal ” Buy any of our delicious signature cocktails and we’ll give you a second for FREE! Plus, all ladies get a 20% discount off food items for the night with live music from 10pm” a night to take advantage of for sure.

The food here really is great , the cocktails are delicious and there so much to choose from, the staff are friendly and happy to help.

We went to McGettigan’s on Saturday night, just hubby and I and we ate and drank all night long, this is a late bar by the way and we listened to the live music and we spent just €80, for a whole Saturday evening out this is fantastic, Limerick is a super city to visit, the night life is always great and it has some incredible restaurants, I will be adding my reviews of lots of them over the coming weeks and months.

The Savoy Hotel Limerick (Afternoon Tea) Review

Lets get these reviews started , today I am talking about a Hotel Restaurant in the centre of Limerick City , at the bottom of Henry Street stands this stunning hotel , there is some parking directly outside the hotel but more often than not this is fully occupied (ps it is free to park here when popping in for food and if the bollards are up, phone reception and they will remove them for you)

I visited The Savoy Hotel Limerick on Monday for some Afternoon Tea with my Husband and daughter, it was my daughters birthday and this was her treat of choice (she is only 12 but she is such a lady ) our visit was at 3pm

So lets begin, arriving to find parking right out side , result, stepped inside to a warm smile from the lady in reception, made our way up the stairs to ‘LIZST’ to be greeted by more smiles and a warm welcome, we were given a nice cosy seat in the window and offered fresh water and the menu’s , they have two menu’s at this time of the afternoon, a standard lunch style menu with things like soup, club sandwiches, fish , steak, salads etc on and the one my daughter and I were interested in Afternoon tea , I have added pictures and screen shoots from both menu’s as to not bore you with endless words 🙂

Afternoon tea starts at €21 per person and on my do you get a lot for your money, This is served in a typical Afternoon tea way, with three tiers of foods and practically a limitless number of tea’s to choose from to go with this, you start with a selection of five different sandwiches ( all super in their own right , from egg, beef, chicken, fish, cheese fillings) , moving onto fruit filled and plan scones served with a selection of quality preserves , butter and the richest , clotted cream that I have ever tastes , a real treat, with a selection of sliced cake on this the 2nd layer , and the crowing glory, the top tier, filled with a super selection of scented and flavoured macaroons and a selection of the finest French patisserie that i am told are freshly baked in The Savoy each day.

Allow a good 2 hours to enjoy your afternoon Tea here at The Savoy Limerick , you will be offered endless tea’s to see you through the layers of tasty delights and you will be in no way hurried along or under any pressure to leave , it is a super experience and one I shall do again.

I think €21 per person is very fair for what you get here, the food is delicious , very fresh and they are obviously using quality ingredients, I will return here for many occasions I would imagine , I am thinking right now this would make a wonderful Mothers Day treat (March 15th 2015) ((do not forget )) , a catch up with friends , hen parties could enjoy this and this is a super birthday treat for anyone .
